This is...therapeutic?

Palette provided by Extend Graphics.

In some ways I'm kind of enjoying these doodles a day now, just using this exercise just to be creatively loose, since I've been on a rocky relationship with art for awhile now: I can't seem to go near her without this overwhelming sense of dread and expectation.

Oh well. One step at a time, one step at a time.

Workouts and stuffage.

Hmm..let's see...

Did a lot of note taking on my online storyboard class' Portfolio workshop video, and got my class dvds from the mail today!

Also had to talk to a friend and set up a sushi eat out and movie later this Saturday to see the Avengers. Now I'll finally see what the hype is all about.

Did some swimming today and felt like an old lady after 25 mins of laps, my sis is nagging me to do more workouts.

But mah prooojects~~ D8

O right-my cousin's taken up my offer of working for her to pay for my online class, so I'll be working two months' time to get some money back. Cripes I better get to work on my aunt's commission to pay for an airplane ticket to LA for the Con happening this July.

Where does the time go!?

I'm beginning to wonder that out alot. It's like I wake up, do some chores, eat, check dailies, and then scan some stuff and work on helping ma out. 8|

Welp-where am I going to find time to just plonk down and grind hours for either tweaking comic stories or just the school's weekly animation exercises!?

The highlight of the day I guess is that my aunt spontaneously just called me and treated me out to a steak dinner- apparently my ma didn't like me not having anything to eat* while she and my sis where in SF so called my aunt to feed me. Oh well.

*By not having to eat meaning nothing readily available and cooked for me. Which isn't horrific since 1) tons of leftovers 2) I can cook, but ma is being ma, haha. She don't want none of her kiddies left out of anything when it comes to food.

Tomorrow's first online workshop class- 80 must try and wake up early!

WHOOPS

Apparently I already did a doodle today-which was like 12 am in the morning, and today I did two more because I didn't like how the first color scheme worked out. Oh bother. D8

Nothing special much happened today but I signed up for an online storyboard class and had to drop plans to join a comic anthology. 8| As much as I would have loved to have tried to be back of a published thing, I don't have the mindset to think about a whole new story/comic. I've got other projects to worry about.

Doodle of the day

I forgot to mention from the previous posts- I've been getting my palettes from this site. I think, while I'm still trying to sort my brain out, this should let me try and flex my creativity outside of my stories and aspirations and expectations just let me fiddle with colors.

Didn't do much today except do more school related stuff for ma and watch a butt load of documentaries like Modern Marvels of China's Great Wall, Las Vegas, Pompeii, and then a bit of Beethoven. It's nice binging on historical info, I just wish I knew how to implement this love for history into my art.

Photo color study FAIL

Not a good idea to try and attempt a color study when feeling extremely down and artistically inadequate-it just makes you feel all the more like poop.

Nightsurfing doodle

Trying to get back to the whole doodle a day thing to get back to learning color composition.
The last days have been uneventful but been feeling more and more depressed over art skills and such, but after talking with a very good friend, the feeling eased up a bit.

Friends and comics

Ugh. I am so bad at not checking my doodles before I shrink them. B|

Anyway, this day was sort of productive on a couple of things. Some comic drawings, but mostly just chatting with old friends all day online, and then new friends throughout the night in the dorm.

Speaking of dorm- holy cow we are spoiled. Our general RA's given us so much nice stuff to organize our kitchen- we've even got a frickin spice rack to hold the community spices! XDXD I'm going to miss all the quietness and cleanliness of this place before the others come back.

Blah day

Night before the dorms open up again. Annoyed at a couple of reasons.

-Having to pack again.
-Having to pick up our room and gate keys on the Other dormitory, which is located right next to school campus, which are both super far from the dorm.
-That sickening thought form of unaccomplishment creeping up on me.

The day was pretty okay listening to my sister watch Parks and Recreation.

Byebye bro

JJ had a slight panic attack when his ride back to Santa Barbara called to say he's sick and can't drive- fortunately for JJ he managed to hitch a ride with another friend heading out later tonight.

Had the fastest chinese eat out ever, and after that, hugged my bro bye and headed back home.

San Francisco and Good byes

Spent the whole day yesterday in San Francisco with family- we mostly just wandered between Powell and and Montgomery chilling and eating while my bro had an appointment to meet. At night we ate at Amici's and came back late at night, where I finally got to show my bro and dad this old kung fu flick called 'The Crippled Avengers'

Today was spent doing laundry and helping pa clean up the christmas lights and packing my school sketches and old artwork to ship back to the Philippines. Finally got the nerve to ask my old EfN opponents if they wanted the originals of my watercolor work, and they've said yes. |D; so that'll be one project to work on. My pa flew back earlier this evening, and my bro will be heading back to Santa Barbara tomorrow morning. Sad.

I've started work on an exercise my old Character Design teacher gave to his fall sem students, but for the sake of 1 pic a day promise, I just doodled this Spider-man thing so I meet my quota.

Trine and sibling cooperative play

Today finished playing Trine with my brother and sister, and man is it so much fun insulting, screaming and laughing at each other's deaths, mishaps and achievements at a gorgeous looking but still kind of a buggy game. Bro played knight, I played wizard, sis played thief.

Not much feeling like doodling people atm, I think doing these abstract color things will give my head the space to just chill and experiment. I'm hoping with enough practice I'll start being able to think outside of the box (eg. sky is blue, skin is tan, etc.) Too bad I double shrunk that 2nd picture by accident. Whoops.

New Year- new resolutions and all that.

Barely a minute's worth, really.
Now that the busyness of Christmas and New Year's have started to ebb off (and there's finally some space again to plop my laptop on the dining table haha)- got to talking to sister and a friend about future projects and more art stuffies.

Lately I've been extremely envious of a lot of friends who I imagine seem to be farting artwork on a day to day basis and I realize the only way I can get there is well, do what they do: draw something colorful, everyday. Plus I Have to make use of last semester's Color for Illustration.

It wasn't so bad when I started, then I had to quit when my own brain started hammering too many negative thoughts about technicalities. After that brief cloud of doubt, it doesn't seem overtly bad-it's just a doodle after all.

So that'll be my New Year's Resolution- just learning to chill out as I draw.

Acrylic Paint doodle 2

Another finished exercise in class, another doodle to make use of extra acrylic globs.

Not sure yet whether I'm getting back at this whole color business of not. All I know is I can discern colors better, but not how to put it all together well D8

Acrylic Paint doodle

Wow. For once I managed to finish an in-class workshop assignment! I actually have time to use up the rest of the paint to make something (so it doesn't feel so bad like I'm throwing money away D'8.

Tiles and Weight shifts

Tile thing didn't turn out so well, and it was because of the lack of contrasting values in the hues- though teacher did say that the color palette had a nice, summer feel to it.

For 2D animation Ryan gives me another positive feedback on how fast I can doodle out my blocking. |D;

It's pretty easy once you know the steps on blocking out. (well these simple cycles anyhow)
Draw out the first and last poses.
Then the middle pose/passing.
Then the in-betweens (They're called squash/reach in a walk cycle)

I guess I work so fast because a lot of people already draw out their forms and outlines, I'm just more concerned about seeing the flow and will worry about the real proportions later on.

A happy turn of events in Color for Illustration

Holy damn- pulled a 5 hour miracle cram of printing/tracing, copying to new paper, and painting 2 tile patterns for Color for Illustration. Also good that QB gave me some of that bread we baked last night so I had some carbs through class.

Wouldn't you know it- I spent more hours/time planning the Pacman Tile and they all preferred the Bee Tile. Kinda wanted to laugh and punch the classmate who explained the reason he preferred the Bee one was because the other one looked like 'a simple screenshot that was taken and then pasted diagonally'.

But what got me in an overtly good mood was the fact I was doing much, much better in workshop today! Teacher said I was getting better with painting in acrylics and was more confident in my colors. HAPPY. :D

In Animation we did some more refining with our walk cycles. This was on Monday.

This was after teacher's critique- mostly about doing more ease in and out of the arm swings, and then fixing the positioning of the feet so it wouldn't make a big pop when the left foot swings across.

He also left early because he felt sick. Spent the rest of the time goofing off and listening to classmates belt out Disney songs before we all left at the usual class time.

Acrylic hate, demo, Bread demo and Tiles

This took forever to plot out.
I wanted to freaking cry today because my acrylics and exercise on chroma colors sucked big time and this was already the 3rd attempt. I went over to Chinatown to buy groceries and then called my sister and then later called Kyla for help. Thank God she decided to go out of her way to give me like a small painting demo of how to mix paint and lending me her brush- BIG DIFFERENCE. D'8

By 7 I finally just slapped some last minute paint because I signed up for our dorm's bread making demo and at 9 I was cramming in the lounge till 1 coming up with these tile designs for the same class. QB kept me company all the way and helped figure out the pathways on the Pacman maze.

This, not so much.

Good Day

Morning-crammed for Color for Illustration about our emotions around the time of 9/11. Did bleh on critique corner since my illustration pieces were far too literal (eg. drawing the burning towers), so have to think more metaphorically And send a new sketch either tomorrow or before weekend-
-as I struggle to try and finish my grayscale exercise And my painter's circle And my hue comparison exercise this weekend.

Damn you acryliiics~ D8<

I'm super super glad that I have Animation 2 on the same day, just being able to doodle and animate stuff makes me feel better.

Well that and the fact
- our teacher (Hans Brekke) brought in a friend from Tippett studios (who'll also be our sub for the next 3 weeks while Brekke's in Norway).
- Despite my cruddly squiggly flash linearts, both teachers didn't mind and I actually did fine on blocking the walk cycle. (walk cycle with teacher critiques implemented)

-He showed us this lil film he and the rest of the Tippett studios did on one of their slow production days. XD And he's the protagonist to boot.
-Then after class I helped out a sophomore who's doing walk cycles for the first time so it felt great being able to be of help.

Then on the bus ride back to Webster I got free ice cream from Colleen and listened to Cel's 'Celphiphany' on the parallels between George Lucas' career and his own movies.
