SO-Week 7

Essentially some major music tweaking needs to occur:
-The two dudes and the missing pig need more frames/time since it goes by too fast, so I need to loop a music longer in that point.
-Jungle run through possibly
-The pan shot (now a pan, so Hunter needs to scootch out of the shot too) needs maybe 2 more frames an a cushion so it doesn't come in and out of the shot so badly.
-The scene with the girl also needs extending since things happen too fast.

Then the parts that need trimming:
-Hunter landing on crocodile- suggested making an overshoot of the croc's open jaws might give me the snap I was looking for.
-The entire sequence between the guy looking out the island and before he does the crab dance will be trimmed out (thank god).

Overall it seems I'm in an odd place since I'm still behind on some blocking, but went overzealous and jumped the gun on other pieces.

Two weeks left and I need half of all this already animated (not yet cleaned up, but at least the in-betweens and stuff are put down).

Crocodile Crossing Version 0

Vimeo Link: https://vimeo.com/49054411

Still figuring out where's a better place to upload the WIP videos, but in the meantime:
This is the bulk of work I've accomplished over the summer on my croc animation. Just last weekend I had a ball of a time playing dress up and shooting some reference videos.

Catching up on online storyboard class

Feeling a bit flustered-since it's almost saturday and I'm still not done figuring out screen directions and what not with the story we're boarding this week.

Story wise it's a pretty fun and exciting script involving an alien, an officer, and running for their dear lives.

-Update-
Gaaaah WTH- I imploded for no reason because my brain farted on me and I thought we were supposed to submit roughs this weekend!

Comedy comes from Character

Mark Kennedy articulates something that was bugging me about my Senior Project class for awhile now: Comedy comes from Character. I've done a couple of doodles out of the croc for a bit and his whole being just boiled to the one doodle on the lower left:

Im still debating how wacky I want my story to be to have that in the short.
He's just a bit of no-nonsense, cool kind of croc who knows want he wants and frankly he 1) doesn't like the dude or his attitude and 2) is gonna make sure he can't cross the river. The girl kind of shares that same attitude which is why they sort of click with one another.

The dude on the other hand-is a mystery to me. So unless I know my opponent everything is up in the air.
For now I'm just basing my drawings on one of our Filipino Heroes Lapu-Lapu, as he is the 'maniliest' filipino dude design i've come across in terms of looks. We'll see how this plays out.

Friends and comics

Ugh. I am so bad at not checking my doodles before I shrink them. B|

Anyway, this day was sort of productive on a couple of things. Some comic drawings, but mostly just chatting with old friends all day online, and then new friends throughout the night in the dorm.

Speaking of dorm- holy cow we are spoiled. Our general RA's given us so much nice stuff to organize our kitchen- we've even got a frickin spice rack to hold the community spices! XDXD I'm going to miss all the quietness and cleanliness of this place before the others come back.

Blah day

Night before the dorms open up again. Annoyed at a couple of reasons.

-Having to pack again.
-Having to pick up our room and gate keys on the Other dormitory, which is located right next to school campus, which are both super far from the dorm.
-That sickening thought form of unaccomplishment creeping up on me.

The day was pretty okay listening to my sister watch Parks and Recreation.

Byebye bro

JJ had a slight panic attack when his ride back to Santa Barbara called to say he's sick and can't drive- fortunately for JJ he managed to hitch a ride with another friend heading out later tonight.

Had the fastest chinese eat out ever, and after that, hugged my bro bye and headed back home.

San Francisco and Good byes

Spent the whole day yesterday in San Francisco with family- we mostly just wandered between Powell and and Montgomery chilling and eating while my bro had an appointment to meet. At night we ate at Amici's and came back late at night, where I finally got to show my bro and dad this old kung fu flick called 'The Crippled Avengers'

Today was spent doing laundry and helping pa clean up the christmas lights and packing my school sketches and old artwork to ship back to the Philippines. Finally got the nerve to ask my old EfN opponents if they wanted the originals of my watercolor work, and they've said yes. |D; so that'll be one project to work on. My pa flew back earlier this evening, and my bro will be heading back to Santa Barbara tomorrow morning. Sad.

I've started work on an exercise my old Character Design teacher gave to his fall sem students, but for the sake of 1 pic a day promise, I just doodled this Spider-man thing so I meet my quota.

Trine and sibling cooperative play

Today finished playing Trine with my brother and sister, and man is it so much fun insulting, screaming and laughing at each other's deaths, mishaps and achievements at a gorgeous looking but still kind of a buggy game. Bro played knight, I played wizard, sis played thief.

Not much feeling like doodling people atm, I think doing these abstract color things will give my head the space to just chill and experiment. I'm hoping with enough practice I'll start being able to think outside of the box (eg. sky is blue, skin is tan, etc.) Too bad I double shrunk that 2nd picture by accident. Whoops.

New Year- new resolutions and all that.

Barely a minute's worth, really.
Now that the busyness of Christmas and New Year's have started to ebb off (and there's finally some space again to plop my laptop on the dining table haha)- got to talking to sister and a friend about future projects and more art stuffies.

Lately I've been extremely envious of a lot of friends who I imagine seem to be farting artwork on a day to day basis and I realize the only way I can get there is well, do what they do: draw something colorful, everyday. Plus I Have to make use of last semester's Color for Illustration.

It wasn't so bad when I started, then I had to quit when my own brain started hammering too many negative thoughts about technicalities. After that brief cloud of doubt, it doesn't seem overtly bad-it's just a doodle after all.

So that'll be my New Year's Resolution- just learning to chill out as I draw.

Update on stuff

Bleh. I only seem to be 'artistically motivated' between the 1-2 am window; in which my brain is too bloody tired to be self defeating and cynical and whatnot so when that happens I can draw in peace.

Which pretty much stinks. It's essentially what I also do in previous semesters of work: I end up working on the last minute because I waste most of the time worrying and fidgeting until the final point, in which case my left brain gives up on me, telling me 'FORGET THIS- at this point ANYTHING is better than NOTHING' and then my mind is just free to do it's thing.

Apart from that, I've spent Saturday exploring the Exploratorium with my siblings and having a sushi dinner, and today I've had lunch with relatives and got stuffed eating more sushi. Delicious.

End of June and plans for this blog

So- finally got a mess of classwork sketches and notebook pics sorted out, and while I will be uploaded and backposting all of them (i'm that nutty on timeline 8| ), the plan is to use this blog to upload stuff that I normally don't upload in my Deviantart account.

So-
-post all Real Life/outdoor sketches that I've done in my classes or sketchbook, and comment on them.
-post artwork/ WIP artwork with some commentary of it's process.
(Well since I'm backpedalling my previous classes I can't remember a lot of the pointers or processes that went into them unfortunately.)
-any concept art, regardless of how extremely sketchy it may be. Might as well start somewhere.

So what do I have in my Photoshop bucket that's in the works?

Sleeping with the Fishes, a redo of an old concept art -

-This fugly old one.
